The very successful Launceston Cup Meeting for 2022 has just been run; and won. It reminded me that the very first race meeting in Scone was also held that very same year. They would have been quite disparate events; albeit celebrating identical objectives?

In 2022 the total prizemoney for an excellent program of 10 races was c. $785,000:00. The Cup alone was worth $250,000:00. Over 100 horses came under starter’s orders. How times have changed? I think the Jockey Club in England must be green with envy at the rich prizes now available for competition throughout Australia?
