For dominated much of the late 19th and much of the 20th century M Campbell & Company dominated retail trade and commerce throughout the townships in the Upper Hunter Valley. They were ‘one-stop shops’ for many shoppers providing hardware, drapery, electrical goods, pharmacy and food outlets. All of their stores were very fine buildings and from an architectural perspective tended to govern the streetscape. ‘Campbell’s Corner’ was the designated meeting place which everyone understood.
